Learning objectives
- Define a confined space and a permit-required confined space (PRCS) under OSHA 1910.146
- List the atmospheric killers: oxygen deficiency/enrichment, flammable and toxic gases, and engulfment
- State the correct atmospheric testing order (O2 then flammable then toxic) and the key numeric limits
- Apply isolation (LOTO), blanking/blinding and forced-air ventilation before entry
- Describe the entry permit and the entrant, attendant and entry-supervisor duties
- Explain why most confined-space deaths are would-be rescuers and plan non-entry rescue
- Follow the safe entry sequence and never enter without a valid permit
