Last updated: June 2026
Protect your back and body. Understand musculoskeletal disorders, screen handling tasks with TILE, apply the NIOSH lifting equation and ISO 11228 limits, lift safely, push and pull within safe forces, use mechanical aids, and set up an ergonomic workstation. The course is organized into 7 modules, ending with a final exam (pass mark 80%). It is free awareness-level training designed for anyone who needs a practical, working understanding of the topic.
What you'll learn
- Musculoskeletal disorders & risk factors
- Assessing tasks: TILE / LITE and ergonomic tools
- Limits: NIOSH lifting equation & ISO 11228 mass
- Safe lifting technique, step by step
- Pushing, pulling, carrying & mechanical aids
- Office & DSE ergonomics, vibration
- Controls, reporting & continual improvement
Learning objectives
- Name the core MSD risk factors: force, repetition, awkward posture, duration, static load and vibration
- Screen a handling task with TILE/LITE (Task, Individual, Load, Environment)
- Calculate a Recommended Weight Limit and Lifting Index with the NIOSH equation and read ISO 11228 mass limits
- Perform a safe, step-by-step lift keeping the load close to the body
- Apply safe push/pull forces and choose mechanical aids and team lifting correctly
- Set up an ergonomic DSE/office workstation and report discomfort early using the control hierarchy
