Learning objectives
- State when a respirator is required and why engineering and work-practice controls come first
- Identify the main air-purifying and atmosphere-supplying respirator types and their Assigned Protection Factor (APF)
- Calculate the Maximum Use Concentration (MUC) and select a respirator whose APF is high enough
- Explain the medical evaluation and fit-testing requirements of OSHA 1910.134
- Perform a positive and negative pressure user seal check before each use
- Identify cartridges/filters (NIOSH N/R/P series, colour codes) and apply a change-out schedule
