Learning objectives

  • Distinguish mechanical press and hydraulic press behavior at a general level while refusing to assume which drive, feed, brake, clutch, control, or safeguard is fitted to a particular asset.
  • Verify role, controlled instruction, process, reference-only equipment selector, die identity, material, and lift-plan status before accepting the assignment; each mapped press reference requires local verification.
  • Recognize crushing, trapping, ejection, sharp-edge, unexpected-motion, stored-energy, manual-handling, oil-leak, and noise hazards and apply safeguards before relying on PPE.
  • Inspect accessible fixed guards, interlocks, two-hand controls, emergency-stop provisions, safe loading methods, and work-area condition only as the current operator instruction permits.
  • Control a permitted dry cycle, start-up sample, first-off decision, normal loading and unloading, process indication, and nonconforming containment without inventing a setting or acceptance limit.
  • Stop and escalate an open guard, defeated interlock, failed control, die mismatch, double feed, misfeed, jam, ejected part, abnormal noise, pressure drift, hydraulic leak, or unsafe body-position condition.
  • Describe why die change, ram blocking, stored-energy control, guard bypass, energized entry, jam clearing beyond the approved operator method, and rescue require specifically authorized intervention.
  • Complete shutdown, material and scrap status, leak containment, incident preservation, shift handover, and supervised practical evidence without claiming certification or operational authorization.
